Showtime: surprisingly productive

In the northern hemisphere the days are really getting shorter. We are looking back on a beautiful summer and are looking forward to the coming season. The use of our leisure time is slowly shifting from outdoor to indoor: we go to see a movie or visit the theatre more often, in short: showtime! Anthura is proud to present the Showtime® variety, inspired by the world of glitter and glamour. Be honest, it is especially nice to come back home after an evening show when a stunning Anthurium Showtime is adorning your living room.

Versatile
Anthurium Showtime® has an extra dark coloured bract and a fresh appearance thanks to the white spadix with a green tip. Dark colours are often used in the autumn and winter months. Also consider the perfect match with the trend presented by Flowerenbureau Holland: Punk Rebooted! Showtime will play a leading role in 2018 within this trend.

Shine
If you want to play the leading part, you have to shine and that is what Showtime does. The tiniest ray of light is immediately reflected by the shiny bract. When the temperature in the distribution chain temporarily falls below 15˚C, Showtime will not collapse immediately thanks to its average cold tolerance. Yet you still need to be cautious about colder conditions, as Anthurium is a tropical plant. With an average vase life of 27 days, Showtime® can count on excellent public reviews.

Surprisingly productive
At Anthura we are, of course, curious to hear your opinions about Showtime. A number of customers has been able to test the variety on a small scale. From the test bed at Anthura Flower, two things struck us: the production and the flower size. Our breeders were aiming for a variety that would be extra productive. Considering how easily Showtime produces flowers, they succeeded well. Depending on the chosen production method, productions of more than 100 flowers/m² will be the rule rather than the exception. In field trials, the flower size proved to be slightly larger than expected. In the test bed at Anthura Flower, flowers were mainly cut in the sizes of 11-13 cm and 13-15 cm. In practice it turns out that Showtime produces flowers with ease in the 15-18 cm range. Note that the flower size is sometimes slightly asymmetric. This production rate, in combination with an ideal flower size, makes Showtime our favourite new star.
