Clarence was born in Surinam, where the tropical Anthurium plant simply grows in the garden. The flower reminds him of Surinam and is his favourite. Clarence Seedorf dedicates himself to the good cause and is initiator of the foundation Champions for Children. The foundation starts from the idea that the fundamental rights of each child must be acknowledged, emphasizing education. The building of schools, sports centres and facilities where children can be educated and develop their potential are spearheads of Champions for Children.
Champions for Children foundation
Last year the foundation Champions for Children held a benefit gala in Milan, for the victims of the earthquake in Abruzzo, Italy. The Anthurium was named as friendship flower on the occasion of the benefit gala.
At that time the children of the “I Felini di Tanja Kok" foundation sang a special song and handed over a cheque, a cd and the pot Anthurium Amis to Clarence Seedorf. The “I Felini di Tanja Kok" foundation is not unknown in the flower branch; earlier they opened the Sailing Parade Westland in 2008.
Champions gala with Tropic Night, Calisto and Presence
April 8 last the foundation Champions for Children held its first yearly Champions gala. The gala was held in the beautiful, historical Castello Sforzesco in Italy. International guests were treated to haute cuisine, light shows of leading entertainers and beautiful Anthurium flowers.
The gala was organised in favour of the Champions Playground project, an initiative of Clarence Seedorf’s foundation. The project helps children in the Netherlands and South Africa and has been set up in cooperation with the Catholic University of Milan and the University of the West Cape. In 2008 a playground has been opened in Almere, with a football field, a tennis court, basketball field and rooms which can be used for several purposes. This year a playground in Manenberg, Cape Town, South Africa will be opened.
Anthura sponsored in cooperation with Charles Lansdorp, initiator of the foundation “I Felini di Tanja Kok", the supply of many Anthurium cut flowers and carrier Lievaart took care of the transport to Italy.
The organisation of Tearose, specialised in big events and with offices in a.o. Rome and Milan, processed many times the varieties Tropic Night, Calisto and Presence into arty objects for the flower decoration of the Champions gala in Milan.
